Data Engineer, Catalog and Search

About Kojo

It’s time to build. Whether it’s creating more housing, upgrading our infrastructure, or adapting to climate change, one thing is clear: the construction industry is at the center of solving our biggest problems. We’re making buildings cheaper and easier to build by transforming the way commercial construction companies buy their materials. Join us.

Founded in 2018, Kojo is now one of the fastest-growing construction technology companies in the world. Construction accounts for $10 trillion in global spend annually and we can’t live without its output – our roads, schools, hospitals, and offices. Despite this, there’s been very little innovation over the past 70 years in how materials – which constitute up to 40% of project costs – are bought and sold. This is our opportunity.

We’re looking for an impactful Data Engineer for a pivotal role on our Platform crew. This engineer will act as the tech lead of our data services and pipelines that power the Kojo catalog experience.

About the Role

This role will include:

  • Serving as the tech lead and primary expert for Kojo’s next-generation catalog, a near-time data pipeline ingesting raw catalog/inventory/pricing data, transforming it, then storing and exposing it for all product use cases

  • Leading the engineering work to evolve the breadth and depth of the catalog, and drive the ability to query and search this data

  • Architecting and articulating technical specs and requirements to establish and document best practices for a scalable and robust catalog/search/data platform.

  • Supervising key systems involved in Kojo’s data and insights driven platform: the Kojo catalog, our search infra, and our analytical data pipelines

  • Impacting overall business metrics by pushing the product forward through improvement and innovation of the catalog, search, and analytical data services within Kojo

About You

An experienced Data Engineer who is ready to make a huge impact in a first-of-its kind role at a growing organization will thrive in this role! If you’re excited about continuous improvement and solution design, apply with us!

What you’ve accomplished:

  • 4+ years of experience in the data engineering field

  • Professional usage of a similar tech stack to Kojo: Postgres, RDS, Redshift, ElasticSearch, Lambda, TypeScript, and other general AWS services

  • Deep understanding of SQL, SQL query optimization

  • Well-versed experience in database configuration/management and indexing

  • Owning design decisions transforming data between OLAP databases, OLTP databases, and data lakes.

  • Experience working on data services that ingest and expose data for production use

  • Deep familiarity with data services that utilize search technology to expose data

  • Extensive work with ETL pipelines

What you care about:

  • Customer Obsession: You care deeply about our customers and go the extra mile to delight them

  • Innovation: You look for the truth behind problems and for “10x” solutions

  • Growth: You are excited by problems because they’re opportunities for improvement
